The Giant Company announced on Tuesday the appointment of Rebecca Lupfer as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. In her new role, Lupfer will be responsible for the marketing of the grocery store chain owned by Ahold Delhaize, as well as commercial planning and pricing. She will report directly to The Giant Company’s President, John Ruane. Lupfer joined The Giant Company, headquartered in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 2018 as Director of Marketing Planning. Kroger and Albertsons have released a list of hundreds of stores slated for divestiture to C&S Wholesale Grocers pending federal approval of their proposed $24.6 billion merger. The states with the highest number of stores affected are Washington, Arizona, and Colorado. BJ’s Wholesale Club has unveiled the locations of its newest clubs, slated to open in early 2025. These clubs, situated in Hanover Township, N.J., and Southern Pines, N.C., will mark the retailer’s 25th location in New Jersey and its 10th in North Carolina. The Jim Pattison Group, a prominent Canadian conglomerate with operations across Canada and the U.S., has acquired Save Mart Cos. from its current owner, private equity firm Kingswood Capital Management, which has held the retailer since 2022. Save Mart’s current management team, including Executive Chairman Shane Sampson, will continue to lead the company, according to a spokesperson for Save Mart who spoke with Supermarket News.
