Colombia is preparing a 460-square-meter stand to present its sustainability, diversity and culture at Fitur 2025, the most important international tourism fair in the world, which will take place in Madrid, Spain, between January 22 and 26, 2025.

At this international event, the country will be presenting its cruise offer, seeking to conquer the European market. In addition, he will present the strategy of ProColombia Macondo, inspired by the country of beauty, which consists of a new tourist offer designed to pay tribute to Gabriel García Márquez, on the occasion of the premiere of the series Cien Años de Soledad on Netflix.

Colombia will seek to take advantage of global visibility to position itself as a unique literary destination with the support of the Bogotá District Tourism Institute (IDT) and Destino Colombia. Both will highlight literary routes inspired by the Colombian Nobel Prize winner in literature, inviting visitors to explore and enjoy the landscapes and traditions that inspired García Márquez’s masterpiece.

    • Destination Colombia: It offers tours of Aracataca and Barranquilla, exploring places that marked the life and work of García Márquez, such as his birthplace and the House Museum, connecting travelers with the world of Cien Años de Soledad.
    • District Tourism Institute: presents a literary circuit in Bogotá, which includes emblematic sites such as Pasaje Rivas, Parque de los Periodistas and the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center, as well as an immersion in historical moments such as the Bogotazo.

“Participation in this fair is key because it allows us to show the world the great gastronomic, cultural, nature, entertainment and business variety that Bogotá has. In this space, we have already arranged 15 meetings with relevant actors in the sector and buyers from different countries, which will allow us to make strategic alliances for the city. Bogotá Tourism’s participation in Fitur 2025 is thanks to the joint work that has been carried out with ProColombia,” said Andrés Santamaría, director of the IDT.

Bogotá will also demonstrate its advances in AI

In addition, the District Tourism Institute revealed that Bogotá will present at this same event the first generative artificial intelligence chatbot CandelarIA, which was designed for tourists visiting the capital, which stands out on the global scene and was recently selected as the second-best place in South America, according to Lonely Planet, one of the largest publishers of travel guides in the world based in Australia.

The Colombian capital stands out on the list of most recommended destinations to visit due to its gastronomic and cultural offerings. Its wonderful landscapes and the warmth of its people, aspects that keep it in the top 25, occupying the 15th position, of the best trending places in the world, according to the reviews of travelers from all over the world on Tripadvisor.

It is also important to note that the country will be attending this famous international tourism fair with its largest delegation in its history: 50 key players in the sector, including accommodation establishments, tour operators and regional entities.

According to the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Luis Carlos Reyes Hernández, Colombia’s participation in Fitur becomes «a great window of opportunity that will allow us to show the world the natural and cultural wealth of our territories, the transformation and the work we are doing to promote Colombia as a high-value destination for international tourism.»

On January 30, 1981, the first edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair was held at the Palacio de Cristal in the Casa de Campo, with the aim of serving as a “global meeting point for tourism professionals.” The Honorary President was King Juan Carlos I, whose presence demonstrated the support of the Royal Family towards the initiative from the beginning.
