Chicago-based Tony’s Fresh Market with a new location in Joliet, Ill. The store located at 1801 West Jefferson St. on the site of a former Kmart and will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to the grocer’s website. Tony’s Fresh Market, which was recently acquired by Apollo Global Management, purchased the property in 2020. The location had been an eyesore for the city of Joliet, located about 40 miles southwest of Chicago, since Kmart closed its doors in 2016, the grocer said. Not only is Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. expanding its fulfillment network, it’s also embarking on a 35,000-square-foot expansion of its Tamarack Farms Dairy in Ohio to support the implementation of an aseptic milk line to produce products such as half and half, heavy whipping cream, coffee creamers and Carbmaster milk, the grocer announced June 24. As rising prices continue to burden American consumers, they are shifting their blame for grocery inflation from the pandemic to the supply chain, according to a recent poll from the Consumer Brands Association and Ipsos. In February, 21% of survey respondents said supply-chain costs and constraints were responsible for rising grocery prices, with that percent rising to 27% in June. Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix held a groundbreaking ceremony June 23 at the site of its first Kentucky store, which will be located in Louisville’s Terra Crossing shopping center and is tentatively slated to open its doors in late 2023.
